intro

hello,

Cheryl Galbraith Minimalist Within

Welcome to Minimalist Within Therapy, Counselling and Trauma Treatment, where together we focus on you feeling better.

I am Cheryl Galbraith B.A., B.S.W., M.S.W., R.S.W., and I want you to feel more calm and successful in all areas of your life.

At Minimalist Within, where I believe that less is absolutely more, leading to a more peaceful existence, I seek to reduce pressures, normalize identity shifts in various life stages, and acknowledge and treat trauma (known or discovered).

The experiences, professions, pressures and adversity we all face are unique, but the common mental load of 'trying to do it all' cross all demographics and employment sectors.

Working from an approach centred on trust, validation, trauma release and determining what your personal lifestyle, parenting priorities or career aspirations are, I aim to soften the identity shifts that generally occur when things don't go as planned.

By treating negative belief systems, trauma, and identifying your own needs and boundaries, we can work together to create the life you want.

Addressing underlying past or present trauma themes and negative internal narratives, while pragmatically addressing the responsibilities of life, parenting and career demands, will inevitably have positive effects.

Are you interested in feeling better and starting to thrive?  Book today explore how addressing unhealed wounds can lead to a more peaceful and successful experience, personally or professionally.

My approach is informed primarily on building a trusting relationship that uses Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), Attachment Theory, Polyvagal Theory, Somatic Work, Internal Family Systems, Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) concepts and Motivational Interviewing, to allow you to move quickly into feeling better and more at ease in your daily life.

Areas of focus include:  Trauma / PTSD treatments (acute, chronic, complex), Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, anger, Pre/Post/Perinatal mental health, Men's work, parenting stress, parenting identity, mental load, grief and loss, relationship stress, self-esteem, career development, athletic performance, and individual goal planning.

about me

My career has spanned many demographics, in partnerships and alongside various First Responders, and has focused primarily on the stress of the family unit and parents, including within: private therapy, child protection, addiction, domestic violence, children's mental health, and youth mentorship.

The common thread amongst these experiences are the stress, adversity, mental health challenges and environmental circumstances that all families face, while enduring the highs and lows of life unfolding (childhood traumas, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, pregnancy loss, limited sleep, parenting of young children, relationship stress and breakdowns, teenagers, mental health concerns, addiction, aging parents, and death) amongst high pressure/ high conflict/ high expectation careers.

I am familiar in seeing people rise above their adversity, and want to help you find your peace and strength in your unique situation.

Having three children and two pregnancy losses inside of four years during a pandemic, with no family near and limited supports in place, expanded and deepened my personal understanding of the parenting experience and challenges we all face.  It solidified my desire to work with individuals and parents through the transition of self to family, and generally with life's inevitable adverse experiences, in professions that value deep resiliency.

Social media and family dynamics can claim it's easy, but working professionals that are accustomed to structure and routine are often shocked at what having children will evoke from past and present trauma, while we try to 'do it all'.
